”Are you going to kill my character?” - Father sentenced to prison for assaulting 8-year-old son during gameplay - South Korea

A father in his 30s who assaulted his 8-year-old son for killing his character while playing a mobile game with him and threatened his wife with a weapon when she tried to report it was sentenced to prison.
On the 18th, the Chuncheon District Court announced that it had sentenced Defendant A (37), who was indicted on charges of special intimidation, violation of the Child Welfare Act, and property damage, to two years in prison.
The court also ordered the defendant to complete a child abuse treatment program for 20 years. On January 30th of this year, the defendant A was playing a game on his mobile phone with his son B (8) at his home in Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province.
When B secretly checked the location of his father's character and killed it, his father became angry and was accused of physically abusing B, including grabbing his arm and throwing him away.
He was also charged with assaulting his wife, Ms. C (34), when she tried to call the police, and he snatched her mobile phone, threw it on the floor twice, stomped on it, and broke it with his hands.
Unable to control his emotions, defendant A threatened Mr. C by pointing the weapon at him, saying, "I can't live with people who are not human."
Defendant A has a history of being punished several times for violent crimes in the past. Five years ago, in August 2020, he mistook his cousin's younger siblings for saying something bad about him and used a weapon to attack his car.
The court stated, "Considering that the crime is serious and that it was committed during a period of repeated offenses related to violence, appropriate punishment for the defendant is unavoidable," but added, "The victim
The sentence was decided after taking into consideration a number of factors, including the fact that the people involved did not want the defendant to be punished, that he was in poor health, and that he had a family to support."
