The court is holding a hearing for the appeal hearing for the accused actor Oh Young Soo. Previously, Oh Young Soo had been away from home for about two months for a theater performance in the summer of 2017, and in August of that year, he was walking down a street when he ran into the victim, A.
He was given an indictment without detention on suspicion of committing indecent assault twice, including hugging Mr. A and kissing him on the cheek in front of Mr. A's residence in September.
Oh Young Soo said, "It is true that I held Mr. A's hand and visited his residence.
However, the first-instance court found the victim's testimony to be consistent and sentenced Oh Young-Soo to eight months in prison with two years of probation.
He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs. At the closing hearing of the appeal hearing, the prosecution said, "The defendant is a veteran actor with 50 years of experience in the theater world who committed sexual assault against a powerless trainee.
"The victim is living in fear at work and elsewhere on a daily basis," he said. "The defendant cannot be forgiven by the victim, and rather, the victim is making false statements," he said, adding that he will be punished accordingly.
In her final statement, Oh Young-Soo said, "I'm embarrassed to be standing in court at this age.
At the time, my words and actions were wrong, and if they become a crime, I will pay the price.
"However, even thinking about it now, I believe that the words and actions I displayed at the time were not enough to be considered obscene."
At the same time, "During my short relationship with the plaintiff, I was hurt by my inappropriate words and actions.
"I am truly sorry if this happens," he said, pleading for leniency. "My 80 years of life that I have protected has been ruined for nothing. It is so empty. It is unbearable. I want to be allowed to return to my former place."
Meanwhile, Oh Young Soo became the first Korean actor to receive an award at the 79th Golden Globe Awards for her role in season 1 of the Netflix series "Squid Game."
He won the award for Best Supporting Actor.
