Q. How did you feel when you received the offer to star in this film? What were your thoughts when you first read the script? I had seen the film "Wangdukgi" and had been interested in director Lee Han's work.
I recently received the script for "My Sweet Hani." It is a story that reminds me of Hwang Seung-won's novel "Sonagi (Sudden Rain)" and is both pure and interesting.
I was curious to see how the romance between a man and woman with deep wounds would be portrayed, and I think the story, which brought a gentle smile to my face, touched my heart. I read the script with great interest. Q.
This was your first attempt at a romantic comedy, and we were able to see a new side of you. How did you prepare for the role of Jiho?
Do you think there are any similarities between you and Chiho? When she gets into a story, the character naturally comes into being. Chiho, who has no sense of reality at all, falls in love, and
I feel a tingling sensation and pain, but as I was thinking about how to react to these new emotions, I think the character came together naturally.
I created Chiho while recalling the memories of being so excited until we connected even though we didn't have a boyfriend, and the feeling of wanting to see each other again as soon as we broke up after being together. Q.
Please tell us if there were any difficulties or challenges you faced while acting.
Jiho has no sense of reality and lacks social skills, but Ilyoung
I thought that I shouldn't make people wonder "why" I love him. So, even though he doesn't have a sense of reality, I have to make him a character that Il-young is worthy of loving.
I thought about the balance. I was always thinking about how to express Jiho's pure charm that makes Ilyoung fall in love at first sight. Q.
Did the director give you any instructions for playing Cha Chiho? Also, did you do any ad-libs?
How much of it did you include? While preparing for the film, I took inspiration from the director Lee Han's actual appearance. He is a very pure-hearted man, just like Ji-ho.
I think this movie has become a movie that you can feel humane. Q. How was it working with Kim Hee Sun for the first time?
Because it's a love story, chemistry with your co-star is very important in this production.
I had heard a lot about Kim Hee Sun's good personality, but when I met her on set, I was surprised at how comfortable she made the other actors feel. The staff also looked like meerkats.
I was always waiting for Kim Hee Sun (laughs). I feel like I was influenced a lot by Kim Hee Sun's bright energy. Q.
What was the most memorable scene with Kim Hee Sun and why?
In the movie, there is a scene where Il-young and Chi-ho break up. Il-young says that they want to break up and walks into the crowd.
I cried a lot during the filming of the scene where I went inside. I remember that I, the director, and Hee Sung were all in tears as we watched the monitor. The script said, "Il-young disappears into the crowd.
"I watched Chiho's movie, but when I thought about it from my perspective, I couldn't just watch her, so I sat down. It was a scene where I felt pure love. Q.
Please tell us about any memorable episodes that happened on set with other cast members or the director.
There were a lot of NGs during the filming at the drive-in theater, but it was fun.
I remember having fun filming it. I usually try to avoid exposure, but in this scene I was a little proactive in coming up with ideas. It was so funny to see such a pure-hearted person like Chiho panic.
I thought it would be interesting to show Chiho panicking when her pants fell off. I think I was able to capture that well (laughs). Q. What do you think is the unique appeal of this film?
"My Sweet Hani" is a movie that depicts a truly pure love story, not a provocative one. It is a warm and pure story that Japanese audiences can watch and sympathize with.
I think that is the biggest appeal of this work. Title: "My Sweet Hani" Release Date: May 3rd (Friday) Marunouchi Piccadilly and other theaters nationwide Cast: Yoo Hae-jin
