President Lee Jae-myung holds first summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping... ”China-Korea relations are fully restored and on track”
President Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to hold his first summit since taking office with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is visiting Korea as a state guest on the 1st. This will be President Xi's first visit to Korea in 11 years.
The official itinerary for President Lee Jae Myung and President Xi Jinping began at the National Museum of Gyeongju, which preserves the heritage of the 1,000-year-old ancient capital of Gyeongju. President Xi Jinping was led and escorted by a traditional Korean drum corps.
After entering the venue and being welcomed by President Lee Jae-myung, the two leaders proceeded to the museum and signed the guest book. Afterwards, the two leaders inspected the honor guard and proceeded to the summit venue.
At the summit meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to mature and develop the China-Korea strategic cooperative partnership that will substantially contribute to the livelihoods of the people of both countries.
In particular, the main topics discussed were the expansion of practical cooperation to resolve civil issues facing the two countries, and the denuclearization and realization of peace on the Korean Peninsula that will serve as the foundation for this.
After the meeting, documents will be exchanged between government ministries of both countries to give concrete shape to the substantive cooperation plans in the civilian sector that were discussed at the meeting.
The leaders of China and South Korea, who met for the first time at this APEC summit, will spend some time socializing and strengthening their friendship and solidarity.
At this event, President Lee Jae-myung will present President Xi Jinping with a genuine Kaya Go board and a Raden lacquered round tray. The Go board is a gift given to President Xi Jinping 11 years ago, as both leaders are fans of the game.
The board was prepared in consideration of the fact that the Korean side had given Go stones as a gift at the time. The Go board, made from the finest Kaya wood, was meant to convey the hope that the relationship between China and Korea will continue beautifully.
The lacquered round tray was made using the long-established traditional lacquering technique, and is meant to express the hope that the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries will continue and develop, the Presidential Office explained.
A presidential office official said, "President Xi's state visit to South Korea this time is in line with the Lee Jae-myung administration's policy of 'national interest-centered pragmatic diplomacy,' and is intended to strengthen the overall relationship between China and South Korea.
"We hope that this will be an opportunity to announce that the former China-Korea strategic cooperative partnership has entered its proper orbit," he said. "We will set common principles and directions for the mature development of the China-Korea strategic cooperative partnership over the next five years,
"It will be a departure point where the people of both countries can experience the fruits of their relationship development."
