South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs: ”We are coordinating Prime Minister Ishiba's visit to South Korea at the end of September”
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is scheduled to visit South Korea at the end of September to meet with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. This is expected to be Ishiba's final visit to South Korea before stepping down as prime minister.
On the 25th, a South Korean Foreign Ministry official said, "We are coordinating with the Japanese side regarding Prime Minister Ishiba's visit to South Korea at the end of September," and "Details such as the specific date and location will be announced once they are confirmed."
"We will make an announcement shortly," the statement said. Prime Minister Ishiba is expected to visit Busan as early as September 30th to hold a summit meeting with President Lee. This is the first time that Prime Minister Ishiba has visited South Korea since August this year.
This visit was a return visit to President Lee's visit to Japan at the end of last year, and it was the third Japan-Korea summit meeting for President Lee since taking office. This visit will also be Prime Minister Ishiba's last visit to Korea.
Prime Minister Ishiba, who announced his intention to resign in 2018, is scheduled to step down from his position as prime minister in early October.
