”This is parliamentary dictatorship”... People's Power to hold public hearing on prosecution dissolution law next week (South Korea)
People's Power lawmakers on the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee have decided to hold an independent hearing on the prosecutorial reform bill being promoted by the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, criticizing it as a ``law to dismantle the prosecutorial branch.''
Rep. Na Kyung-won, who is the nominee for the opposition party secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, will be speaking with Rep. Cho Bae-sook, Song Seok-jun, and Kwak Gyu-taek.
That morning, he held a press conference in the National Assembly and said, "Next week, we will hold an independent hearing on the Prosecutor's Office Dissolution Act. Ultimately, there are various side effects of completely stripping the prosecutor's investigative powers, and the prosecutor's office will be severely affected."
"We will hold a public hearing on the Prosecutor's Office Dissolution Act, focusing on the damage it will cause to the public," Rep. Na said, "Today, at the First Subcommittee of the Law and Judiciary Committee, we held a hearing on the National Assembly's version of the Prosecutor's Office, disguised as a legislative hearing on the dissolution of the Prosecutor's Office."
"Investigations and trials are underway. This is exactly what parliamentary dictatorship is," Rep. Ra said.
Regarding the inclusion of Lee Jae-myung as a judge, he pointed out that "this is an attempt to overturn the trial of President Lee Jae-myung under the pretext of a hearing." He also said that the fact that the subcommittee meeting, which is usually held behind closed doors, was made public was "an unconstitutional attempt."
The previous day, Rep. Na also criticized the bill to establish a special court for civil unrest, which was submitted to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee by the Democratic Party, calling it a "people's court (Volksgerichtshof) created by the Nazis."
He added, "What is the difference between this and the Democratic Party conducting a special investigation as they please, and then setting up a special court when they think the investigation results will not be what they want?
The new world will ultimately be the completion of a dictatorship that will destroy the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea,” Rep. Cho said. “Under the pretext of a legislative hearing on prosecutorial reform, they are currently investigating and investigating cases.
If that is the case, what is the need for the prosecution? Also, if they create a special court and let judges who suit their tastes preside over cases, what else will the court do?
Regarding the procedure for handling the so-called “stronger” amendment to the Special Prosecutor Act, which was passed by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea the previous day, Rep. Song said, “It was unilaterally and undemocratically done without any consultation.
"The National Assembly is being run in a dictatorial manner, and three special prosecutor bills that should never have been passed have been passed," he said.
