Hwang Jung Min explained the reason for returning to the musical stage with this work, saying, "I liked the theme and the intention of the work, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages and can be shared in common."
He also said, "To be honest, the role of Daniel is difficult, but I am taking on the role with a sense of mission and responsibility to show a really good performance."
This will be his first musical appearance in 10 years since "Orchestra Pit" in 2015.
Hwang Jung Min has previously participated in this work, which tells the story of orchestra members, as a director and producer, as well as playing the lead role of the conductor.
Since then, he has focused mainly on film and occasionally appeared on stage in plays, but has distanced himself from musicals.
"Mrs. Doubtfire," which premiered in 2022 under a domestic license and will be performed again for the first time in three years, is based on the film of the same name starring Robin Williams.
The story depicts what happens when Daniel, played by Hwang Jung Min, disguises himself as a nanny named Mrs. Doubtfire and enters his ex-wife's house to take care of their children.
The role of father Daniel will be played alternately by Hwang Jung Min, Jung Sung Hwa, and Jung Sang Hoon. Daniel will quickly transform into Mrs. Doubtfire in the role of "Ku" (Ku)
The "Swim Change" scene is also a highlight of the film. Hwang Jung Min said, "(In comedy acting) it's not important to just make people laugh, but to have pathos while also adapting to the situation."
"It's important to act with that in mind," he said, "I've mainly been doing gangster movies and R-19 movies, so I've lost my sense of humor. I've been imitating actors Jung Sung-hwa and Jung Sang-hoon, and they've helped me a lot."
The more I practice, the more I can laugh. I feel like I'm not an actor who only says bad things," he said with a laugh. He continued, "Unlike film costumes, which take a lot of time, stage costumes are a little more like changing faces.
"In this production, Daniel will change his appearance as Mrs. Doubtfire, and his voice and actions will also change, which will be an interesting element," he added.
Jung Sung-hwa, who played the same role at the 2022 premiere, said, "Daniel not only had to wear costumes on stage, but also had to dance tap dance and other dances.
"It's a role that requires a lot of lyrics and is extremely difficult," he said, adding, "Each member will be able to take advantage of their own comedic strengths to create a performance that is unique to each of the three members."
Jung Sang-hoon, who is taking on this role for the first time, said, "The script is so good that I was really impressed.
"I think it will do well if we stick to the book," he said, "I really love Robin Williams, the actor who starred in the original film, and I wanted to look like him, so I decided to appear in the film."
The show will run from September 27th to December 7th at Charlotte Theater in Jamsil, Seoul.
