The loudspeakers have not been removed. A Joint Chiefs of Staff official told reporters on the 8th that there was domestic evidence that North Korea had installed more loudspeakers to the South after the South Korean military stopped broadcasting to North Korea using loudspeakers.
In response to media reports, the company said, "There are a few small loudspeakers in the set, but we have increased the number of loudspeakers," explaining that the number of loudspeakers in the loudspeaker sets for South Korea installed in each region has been increased.
The official said, "Currently, there are no (noise) broadcasts directed at South Korea, and they will not actually be in operation," adding, "The purpose of adding loudspeakers is to increase (broadcast) output."
North Korea reportedly installed more loudspeakers toward South Korea between May and June, and the work continued even after the South Korean military stopped loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea on June 11.
The official said, "This appears to be an activity prior to the removal of the loudspeakers aimed at North Korea (by the South Korean military), and is an activity to increase the power output (of the loudspeakers aimed at South Korea) that has been in preparation for some time."
On the 4th and 5th, the South Korean military removed the fixed loudspeakers aimed at North Korea that had been installed in the forward area. However, North Korea has yet to remove the loudspeakers aimed at South Korea.
The official said that maintenance activities are also continuing.
