Police launch full-scale investigation into allegations against Lee Jun-seok, head of the New Reform Party, for allegedly paying for poll fees (South Korea)

The police have assigned a case to Lee Jun-seok, chairman of the New Reform Party, and have begun a full-scale investigation into allegations that he received payments for public opinion polls.
According to the police on the 28th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has charged Oh Sang-jung, head of the Free Korea Defence Corps, with violating the Public Offices Election Act and the Political Funds Act.
The case against Lee was assigned to the Public Crimes Investigation Unit at the end of May. Lee is running for Goryeong County governor in the 2021 People Power Party presidential election.
He is suspected of having received payment for the polling expenses from a political aspirant named Bae, who was preparing for the poll. The police are expected to report the first informant in the Myung Tae-gyun official interference allegations in the near future.
The police plan to summon Kang Hye-kyung, who is a suspect in the case, as a witness and question her. A police source said, "We are coordinating the schedule with Kang's side, but nothing has been finalized yet."
Kang served as vice president of the Future Korea Institute, a polling company essentially run by political broker Myung Tae-gyun.
He was in charge of practical matters.
