A crack was discovered in the wall of the corridor of the apartment building "Olympic Park Foreon (the reconstruction of the former Tungcheon Housing Complex)" in Tungcheon-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

A long, straight crack was discovered on the wall of the 34th floor corridor, sparking controversy among residents. After inspecting the site, the residents' representative council requested that the construction company, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, investigate the cause and conduct a structural safety inspection.
The Olympic Park Foreon Resident Representatives Council said in an official document to Hyundai Engineering & Construction on the same day that "a straight crack was confirmed in the corridor on the premises," and that "a straight horizontal crack was confirmed in the corridor on the premises."
The shape of the crack is unusual, and it seems necessary to investigate the cause, come up with specific repair methods, and conduct a structural safety inspection."
A detailed structural safety diagnosis is carried out when abnormal signs such as cracks, subsidence, or water leakage appear in a building.
This is a procedure to evaluate and analyze the structural safety. Based on the results of the diagnosis, the necessity of repairs and reinforcement and the grade (A to E) are judged, and if it is judged to be in danger of collapse, an order to suspend use may be issued.
The Resident Representatives Meeting will also use official documents to clarify the exact location and cause of horizontal cracks, appropriate repair methods, the possibility of recurrence after repairs and preventive measures, and the results of a full survey of the complex.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the construction company, stated, "We are reviewing the official documents sent by the Resident Representatives Meeting and are currently investigating the facts."
As the cracks in the wall became apparent, residents said, "We heard that the cracks found in the hallway on the 34th floor had widened significantly in a day, so we went to check it out for ourselves," and "We are worried that the house will collapse."
"I'm very worried that it may fall, so I think we need Hyundai Engineering & Construction to conduct a safety inspection and provide an explanation of the situation," he said, expressing his concern.
Gangdong-gu will hold a meeting with the residents' representatives, and the structural safety inspection specialist, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, will participate.
Meanwhile, Olympic Park Foreon, one of the largest reconstruction complexes in Korea with 12,000 homes, began accepting residents in November last year.
The market price of the 84-square-meter apartment, which was priced at 1.2 billion won (US$1.25 million) when it was first sold, has recently risen to a maximum of 2.88 billion won (US$3.2 million).
