The director of an entertainment facility and former movie actor who blackmailed the late actor Lee Seong Kyu (INFINITE) and extorted more than 300 million won (about 30 million yen) from him was given a higher sentence on appeal.

Mr. A, who had been released on bail on the 26th of last month and was undergoing trial without indictment, was arraigned in court on the same day.
The court said that A was “admitting his mistake and feeling remorseful” but also said that “he had been acting in a way that was in his best interest to the victim who trusted him (as B had requested).”

In September 2023, Mr. A told Lee Seong Kyu (INFINITE) that his phone had been hacked and he was being threatened, and offered him 300 million won to keep quiet.
It is suspected that the hacker who threatened Mr. A was later revealed to be Mr. B, a former movie actor who lived in the same apartment building and was close to Mr. A. Mr. B had a secret connection to Lee Sung-gi.
He is also accused of personally threatening Lee Seong Kyu and stealing 50 million won (approximately 5 million yen). The late Lee Seong Kyu (INFINITE) was arrested by police on December 27 last year on suspicion of possession of marijuana and possession of drugs under the Narcotics Control Act.
