Han Chae Young will be returning to the big screen for the first time in eight years with Hyun Woo Sung's directorial debut. The press preview of the film "City of Evil" was held on the 12th at Yeongsan, Seoul.
The event was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu and was attended by director Hyun Woo-sung and actors Han Chae Young, Jang Eui-soo, Kim Hye Eun, and Kim Won-woo.
"City of Evil" is a story about Yoo-jung (played by Han Chae Young), who believes in the goodness of people, Kang-soo (played by Jang Ui-soo), who doesn't trust people, and So-young (played by So-young), who exploits people.
This is a work that depicts the true nature of human beings in a catastrophic relationship where the protagonist and In-hee (played by Hyun Woo-sung) are entangled and either kill or be killed. This is Hyun Woo-sung's directorial debut as well as his first leading role on screen.
Hyun Woo-sung said, "I've always been concerned about the bad people around me. In particular, I've seen a lot of actors being deceived and victimized. I have a prejudice that they have a chaotic life.
It may be true, but there are many people who attend church enthusiastically and do their best in volunteer work. However, there are many bad people around, so I have been urging people who are living honest lives to be careful.
But I didn't know what to do, so I decided to make a movie." He continued, "When I entered university, my professor told me that part-time work would be my main job, but that's how I lived my life.
I worked as a model while attending college, then became an actor, then went to graduate school and wrote an assignment that became a screenplay. I gathered some staff and talked to a production company, and they asked if I would like to direct, and I said I would.
Han Chae Young is returning to the big screen for the first time in eight years since "The Star Next Door." Han Chae Young said, "The dark genre reminds me of my role in 'Wild Cards' 20 years ago.
I haven't shot a movie in this genre since "The Last Cop." I got a script for this genre after a long time, so I wanted to do it. I'm not worried or stressed because it's been a long time since I've shot a movie in this genre.
"But at the same time, I was excited and wanted to try it. I've appeared in a lot of interesting and TV-like things up until now, so this movie was a fresh choice for me," he said.
Jang Ui Soo also said, "I suddenly found myself in the role, so rather than saying, 'I fell in love with Gang Soo,' I simply read the script and tried to express what I felt.
I played a lot of prankster roles up until now, but this time I had a role with weight. I was the lead, but there were many actors who were excellent at acting, so I was able to get a lot of help. The director especially taught me a lot.
"I was really worried because it was only one scene. I've been working with director Hyun Woo-sung for about 14 or 15 years now.
He said he had written a script and showed it to me, but I thought it was typical of him because he has always said that you have to be careful of people. My English name is Grace, but my character's name is Grace.
Kim Won said, "I took a lot of inspiration from Jun Woong Tae and Jung Woo's acting while preparing for the role.
I auditioned and got in. I was 75kg at the time, but the director suggested I gain some weight, so I gained 12-13kg. I also had long hair, but I cut it to look stronger.
"I had a perm. I tried to create a new character, so it's a role that I'm very attached to," he recalled. "City of Evil" will be released on the 20th.
