”God, your time has come to an end”... The mayor of Gyeongju, whose ”abusive language” caused controversy, ends up apologizing
Gyeongju Mayor Joo Na-kyung, who sparked controversy by making derogatory remarks about the Korean group "god," has finally apologized.
Mayor Chu spoke at the KBS event held in Gyeongju on the 9th.
During the pre-recording of the 2025 Gyeongju APEC special on 2TV's "Immortal Masterpiece," when they saw "god" on the guest list, they said, "'god' is the name of our generation.
"I'm a singer, but isn't my time already over?" As soon as this comment was reported, netizens immediately posted the Mayor's comment on the Gyeongju City Hall homepage.
They took issue with the remarks and demanded an official apology. As criticism grew, the mayor immediately posted an apology on social media, saying, "I deeply apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with my remarks."
He went on to emphasize that his comments were not intended to disparage any particular artist.
Mayor Joo said, "Our generation loved and loved 'god' so much, and we still love it today.
"I made the comment with love and joy for her active activities," he said, "However, if my words were insufficient and caused any pain to fans, I take this seriously and sincerely apologize.
However, Park Jun-hyung, the leader and oldest member of the group, said, "No matter what anyone says, we are big fans of Mayor Joo's comments.
He comforted his fans by saying, "It's nothing new." Park Jun-hyung continued, "I just want to know that you all get hurt because of someone's wrong words.
"I think we'll be okay," he said, "so please be open-minded and don't get hurt." He also said, "Don't get stressed over small things," and "We have a lot more to learn from now on."
"There's a lot left to be done," he added.
