It was estimated that the damage caused by the arson attack on Seoul Subway Line 5 on the 31st of last month amounted to around 330 million won.
According to the fire and police on the 1st, an accident occurred on Seoul Subway Line 5 at 8:43 a.m. on the 30th.
The fire broke out on the subway between Yeouinaru and Mapo stations, destroying part of one car and causing soot damage to two other cars, causing damage worth approximately 330 million won.
About 400 passengers quickly evacuated the train before the flames spread, and no major casualties were reported. However, 23 people were taken to a nearby hospital with smoke inhalation.
At 9:45 a.m. on the day of the incident, police arrested a man in his 60s, who is believed to be the arson suspect, near Yeouinaru Station. The man was carrying a fuel bottle while boarding the subway.
After that, he reportedly used a lighter-type torch to set fire to his clothes and other items. Police are expected to apply for an arrest warrant as early as today.
