”The world's safest public bath” to be operated in Gyeonggi Province, construction guidelines also disclosed (South Korea)
Gyeonggi Province is revealing how it will create the "safest bathhouse in the world." The "Iljok Bathhouse," which opened in November 2024, will be designed to prevent heatstroke, the main cause of accidents in the bathroom.
Before entering, facial recognition equipment will measure body temperature and heart rate, and guide visitors to a safe bathing spot that suits their health condition.
The bathtub has no sharp edges and there are emergency SOS buttons placed throughout.
The locker room numbers are displayed large for the elderly, and the walls are painted in a color that contrasts with the human body. Senior citizens are employed to promote facility use and accident prevention. Average number of users during the day on weekdays
The number of employees was about 100, up from about 60 last year. The facility was established through the Gyeonggi Governor's Office of Social Economy's "2024 Social and Environmental Problem Solving Support Project," in cooperation with the city of Anseong and the advertising company Innoh.
The city has posted guidelines on its website, including design concepts and blueprints, to encourage the expansion of such innovative cases to other areas.
Gong Jeong-sik, director of the Social Innovation and Economy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The world's safest public bath project is not just about improving public facilities, but also about working with private companies to build an elderly care system in the region.
This is a case in which we put effort into it."
