More than 90,000 copies have been sold so far, including the first one. The new teaching materials are designed to broaden the reader's thinking by asking questions such as, "How can conflicting views of history be reconciled?"
The Mainichi Shimbun reported that the project is notable for having been developed based on the idea of creating new teaching materials. Researchers from Japan, China and South Korea began full-scale discussions on creating new teaching materials in 2015, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, they began to use online teaching materials.
According to the Japanese publication "Kobunken," the editorial committee members of the three countries said, "We need to open up a history that continues into the future through dialogue, rather than just focusing on the conflict."
"We hope that this book will encourage people to compare their own country's history with other countries and explore the relationship between the three countries," said the Kobunken. "Knowing the way people in other countries think is the first step in developing trusting relationships.
"It will be a step forward," he emphasized. Kobunken will be running a crowdfunding campaign until the 10th of next month to raise some of the publication costs. As of the morning of the same day, the total amount raised was 1,165,000 yen.
