Banco Industrial, Guatemala's largest bank, has signed up with SkuPay, a blockchain-based remittance infrastructure provider.
The bank has integrated it into its mobile banking app, making it easier and faster for Guatemalans to receive remittances from the U.S. using blockchain technology.
SukuPay announced in an official statement that its infrastructure has been fully integrated into Banco Industrial's mobile payment app Zigi.
Zigi app users can now receive their funds instantly with a fixed fee of just $0.99. According to the company, Zigi app users can easily send and receive funds using their crypto wallet or International Bank Account Number (IBA).
"You can receive money without having to have a bank account," said Yonathan, CEO of Sukupay.
In an interview with Cointelegraph, Lapchik said: “Blockchain technology
The key to popularizing it is to make it invisible to the user," he said, emphasizing that true proliferation is only possible if technological barriers are removed.
"What we need to do is build the foundation, not force people to understand the technology," he said.
"Only then can we spread blockchain to billions of people," he said. Banco Industrial is a bank founded in 1968 that has 1,600 branches across Guatemala.
With the above sales network, the total assets as of 2023 will reach 150 million Guatemalan quetzals (approximately $20 million). Sukupay believes that this integration will be the first in Latin America
The bank also has operations in Honduras, Panama and El Salvador.
It plays an important role in the remittance market in the region.
