Police have arrested a man in his 30s for posting threatening messages online against Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
According to police on the 22nd, the Samsan Police Station in Incheon has arrested and is investigating a man in his 30s on suspicion of blackmail.
The man is suspected of posting a threat on Facebook at around 11 p.m. on the 20th at his residence in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, saying, "I'm looking for a group to assassinate Lee Jae-myung."
Police confirmed the man's identity through IP (Internet Protocol) tracking, arrested him at his residence on the afternoon of the 21st, and voluntarily took him to the police station.
During police investigation, the man was found to have stated that he did it to kill time.
A police source said, "The crime of intimidation is a crime of going against will and not punishing others, so if the victim does not want punishment, they can avoid it."
"We will then decide whether to refer the man to prosecution after checking with the political party," he said.
