China oppose North Korea human rights conference requested by Japan, US, and South Korea
China opposed the holding of the 'North Korea Human Rights Conference' by the United Nations Security Council as requested by Japan, the United States, and South Korea.

According to Reuters on August 14th (local time), a spokesman for China's mission to the United Nations said on the same day that China opposes the Security Council's holding of such a meeting because it sees no added value.

"The duty of the Security Council is not human rights, but the maintenance of international peace and security," he said.

"The Security Council meeting on human rights in North Korea is out of its jurisdiction and will only serve to politicize the human rights issue and deepen conflict and animosity," he said.

Japan, the United States and South Korea have requested the United Nations Security Council to hold a conference on human rights in North Korea on the 17th.
