The talks were held on the occasion of the Japan-China-Korea Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in August this year, when Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Song Mi-ryong met with Prime Minister Shinjiro Koizumi.
This was made possible by a meeting with the then Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, who agreed to establish a channel for regular high-level dialogue. The two countries agreed to work together on common issues such as agricultural technology cooperation and food security.
After sharing information on the current state of policy and exchanging ideas on solutions to problems, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding committing to continuing regular dialogue.
Vice Minister Kang said, "Korea and Japan share similar agricultural structures and challenges, and we will work together to improve each other's competitiveness and
"We hope that this meeting will be a starting point for broadening the scope of agricultural cooperation between the two countries," he said.
