In South Korea, the number of births in the third quarter of this year (September) exceeded 190,000, marking the largest increase in births in 18 years.
However, the number of deaths remains higher than the number of births, and the "natural population decline" continues.
According to the "September 2025 Population Trends" released by the Korea National Data Center on the 26th, the number of births in September was 22,369, an increase of 1,780 (8.6%) from the same month last year.
This is the highest number of births since 2020. The increase in births has continued for 15 consecutive months since July of last year. The number of births in the third quarter (July to September) was 65,039.
This is 3,767 more than the same period last year (6.1%), and the trend of increase continues. The cumulative number of births from January to September this year was 191,040, an increase of 12,488 from the previous year, and the highest number since 2007.
The total fertility rate in September was 0.85, up 0.06 from the previous year, and was 0.81 in the third quarter.
It increased by 0.04 people.
