President Lee Jae-myung arrived in South Africa on the afternoon of the 21st (local time) to attend the G20 Summit.
President Lee arrived at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at around 8:47 pm on the 21st.
The event was attended by Ambassador Nghan and his wife, and from the South African side, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Vilan Ocam and Director of the Northeast Asia and Oceania Division of the International Relations and Cooperation Department Mmaiki Dube.
President Lee and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung disembarked from the first Air Force plane and exchanged greetings with those who came to greet them. President Lee wore a dark navy blue suit, while First Lady Kim wore a light yellow suit.
A dance team of eight young South African youths performed at the end of the red carpet to welcome President Lee and First Lady.
On the 22nd, President Lee attended the first session of the G20 Summit and spoke about economic growth, the role of trade, and development, under the theme of "inclusive and sustainable growth that leaves no one behind."
The second session in the afternoon will be themed on "Resilient World," and will discuss disaster risk reduction and responses to climate change.
He is also scheduled to meet with leaders of Turkey and France, and to hold a meeting of MIKTA, a partnership of middle powers.
At a press conference held in Cairo, Egypt on the 20th, National Security Advisor Wi Sung-rak said, "Next year, we will normalize diplomatic relations between France and South Korea.
"With the 140th anniversary of the founding of the United States approaching, we have agreed to cooperate closely with France, which will assume the chair of the G7 next year, on the international situation and various economic and security issues," he said.
Regarding the summit with Germany, Director Wei said, "Through the summit with Germany, which is Korea's largest trading partner in Europe and a manufacturing powerhouse like Korea, we will be able to develop an economic framework that responds to changes in the international economic order."
Regarding the MIKTA meeting, Uy said, "It will be comprised of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia.
The newly formed MIKTA will hold a summit this year under the leadership of South Korea, the chair country, to discuss ways to strengthen multilateralism and promote international cooperation.
At the third session on the 23rd, President Lee will discuss global issues such as rare earths, quality jobs, and AI under the theme of "A fair future for all."
After that, they will conclude their schedule in Johannesburg with a social gathering with local Koreans.
