Exports of consumer goods are expected to exceed $10 billion (approximately 1.54 trillion yen) for four consecutive years from 2021, and to reach around $12 billion (approximately 1.84 trillion yen) in 2025.
Cosmetics exports, in particular, are expected to reach a record high of $11.7 billion by the end of 2025, up 15.4% to $8.5 billion.
Semiconductors and automobiles are also doing well. These results are thought to be due to the diversification of export items. Cosmetics has become the top importing country for the United States, surpassing France.
Furthermore, food consumption is growing in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. With annual exports of food and cosmetics exceeding $10 billion, the export scale is now comparable to that of consumer goods, which were previously the mainstay of the economy.
An industry insider said, "With global demand continuing to grow, it is essential for companies to innovate and implement localization strategies, along with government support. We need to strengthen our competitiveness in terms of quality and service."
"This will be the key to making a leap and establishing ourselves in overseas markets."
