”Died 20 minutes after injection” - Nurse assistant who gave wrong medicine = South Korea

A nursing assistant who accidentally injected the wrong medicine into a patient with cirrhosis, causing his death, has been given a suspended prison sentence. According to legal circles, the Changwon District Court on the 15th suspended the sentence on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.
The case occurred in July last year at a hospital in Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do.
At the time, the victim was hospitalized and receiving treatment for liver cirrhosis, and suspect A received a prescription from his doctor to "inject intravenously a drug to treat liver disease."
The structure was such that the injections could be prepared directly. However, in the dispensing process, drugs of similar sizes and colors were mixed together, and although the drug labels should have been checked, suspect A did not do so.
As a result, instead of a liver disease treatment drug, a drug that rapidly increases blood pressure was put into the syringe. This injection was administered to the victim by the nurse in charge, and the patient died 20 minutes after the drug was administered.
He later died of acute heart failure. The court pointed out that suspect A's negligence in causing the death of the victim was "heavy responsibility." However, the court found that the agreement with the victim's family, the initial recognition and opposition
The ministry decided to suspend the sentence instead of giving him a prison sentence, taking into consideration that he had no criminal record. With this, the sentence has now become final.
