仁川空港で乗客の預け荷物から14億ウォン超える札束が発見される
A bundle of over 1.4 billion won in cash was discovered in a passenger's checked baggage at Incheon Airport.
It has been learned that a huge amount of foreign currency, amounting to over 1.4 billion won (approximately 140 million yen), was seized in the departure hall of Incheon Airport, and customs authorities are conducting an investigation.
According to Newsis on the 14th, at around 6:04 a.m. on the 13th, a large amount of cash was found in a passenger's checked baggage at the security checkpoint on the east and west sides of Incheon Airport's Terminal 2.
The cash was found wrapped in a towel in a suitcase, and the bag was almost entirely filled with foreign currency.
The bag was left in the custody of a Korean man who was leaving Incheon for Hong Kong at 8:20 that day.
The two suitcases contained 45 million yen, 44 million yen, and 400,000 dollars (approximately 61 million yen), respectively. According to the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, anyone who enters or leaves the country with more than 10,000 dollars in foreign currency is prohibited from doing so.
When carrying something in or out, it must be declared to customs. However, it was reported that the man in question had not declared anything. The man reportedly stated that he had "left his friend's belongings on his behalf."
However, customs officials are investigating the matter as the source of the man's funds is unclear.
