Patient dies at Yang Jae-eun Hospital... Doctor in custody, four nurses under house arrest (South Korea)

The Criminal Division 2 of the Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office in South Korea arrested and indicted the attending physician, Mr. A, in his 40s, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death, and Ms. B and other nurses in their 40s and 50s.
On May 12th, the company announced that it had indicted four patients without detention. Five medical staff members, including Mr. A, are suspected of failing to properly treat a female patient in her 30s, Ms. C, who was complaining of abdominal pain, on May 27th of last year, leading to her death.
Mr. C was admitted to the hospital for treatment of diet pill addiction. According to the prosecution's investigation, Mr. A and other medical staff were unaware that the antipsychotic drugs administered to Mr. C had side effects.
The prosecution has determined that the possibility of side effects was not taken into consideration, careful observation was not conducted, and follow-up observation was also neglected.
An even more serious problem was that they confined Mr. C, who was complaining of pain, in a stabilization room and restrained his arms and legs.
When patients complained of pain, medical staff failed to take appropriate measures, instead isolating them and tying them down.
Although Mr. A and other medical staff did not treat Mr. C face-to-face, they falsely recorded in the medical records that they had treated him.
It was also revealed that Mr. C was given a laxative that was not listed on the prescription. Mr. C died of acute intestinal pseudo-obstruction 17 days after being admitted to hospital. Acute intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a condition in which the intestines become physically obstructed.
It is a disease in which intestinal movement is paralyzed even though there is no actual obstruction, causing symptoms similar to intestinal obstruction. It can occur as a side effect of antipsychotic drugs, and early detection and treatment are essential.
The hospital in question is run by Yang Jae-eun, a psychiatric specialist who also works as a TV personality. Yang is 43 years old and works as a psychiatrist.
He is a medical specialist and has also been active in broadcasting, including appearing on television. The prosecution has taken over the case from the police and is investigating seven other medical staff members, including Yang.
According to a prosecutor, investigations are still underway into the remaining seven medical personnel, including Yang. The prosecutors are considering adding additional people to the investigation as the trial of the five who have already been indicted, including Mr. A, progresses.
The investigation into this matter is also scheduled to be completed.
