President Lee hinted at the continuation of shuttle diplomacy and suggested Nara Prefecture as the location for the next summit.
At a press conference held at the media center after the APEC meeting, President Lee responded to a question from a Japanese reporter about his first impression of Prime Minister Takaichi.
President Lee responded, "It's not that I wasn't worried," as stated above. "When I was elected president in Japan, I'm sure people in Korea thought I was a 'far-leftist' and 'worried about it.'
"I believe that Prime Minister Takaichi's thoughts and actions are different now that she has taken on full responsibility for managing the country of Japan than when she was just a politician," he said.
Some people interpreted Takaichi as "a female Abe and was seen as a far-right politician, but after meeting her in person, it seems she has come to have a favorable impression of her."
President Lee said, "After meeting him in person and talking for a long time, I felt that he was an excellent politician who shared the same views as me."
He also said, "South Korea and Japan should be able to fully develop a relationship of mutual assistance and meet frequently." He added, "If possible, next time we should have shuttle diplomacy.
"I suggested that I should visit Japan in accordance with that spirit, and that if possible, I should go to Nara Prefecture," he said. Prime Minister Takaichi was reportedly pleased with this.
