By transportation method, rail transport increased 2.8% to 3.91 billion tons, road transport increased 4.1% to 31.91 billion tons, and water transport increased 3.7%.
cargo handling volume at ports showed relatively high growth. Cargo handling volume for January-September increased 4.6% to 13.57 billion tons.
Container handling volume increased by 6.3% to 260 million TEU. By cargo type, domestic trade increased by 3.2% and foreign trade increased by 8.4%.

The scale of investment in fixed assets related to transportation remained at a high level. Investment in fixed assets related to transportation from January to September reached 2.6 trillion yen (approximately 56.3 trillion yen).
Of these, railways accounted for 593.7 billion former (approximately 12.9 trillion yen), roads for 1.78 trillion former (approximately 38.6 trillion yen), waterways for 160.5 billion former (approximately 3.5 trillion yen), and civil aviation for 82.9 billion former (approximately
