SKC restructures semiconductor materials business to focus on glass substrates and equipment (Korea)
SKC, a major chemical materials manufacturer, has absorbed SK Empulse, a manufacturer of semiconductor raw materials and components, as part of a restructuring of its business portfolio. The decision was made at a board meeting on the 14th.
All procedures will be completed by the end of the year. As a result, SKC has secured approximately 380 billion won (approximately 40,410,720,000 yen), including cash held by SK Empulse and proceeds from the sale of the business.
The funds will be used to invest in high-value-added semiconductor packaging, including glass substrates, and in advanced raw materials. They will also be used to improve financial soundness, including the repayment of loans.
As part of its mid- to long-term portfolio changes, SKC has been restructuring its semiconductor materials business since 2023. SK Empulse's fine ceramics and CMP (planarization)
) After successively selling off its pad business, mask blanks business, etc., the back-end equipment business division was separated into the newly established I-Semi, and transferred to the affiliated semiconductor test solutions company ISC.
As a result, SKC's semiconductor materials business will be reorganized into ISC's test socket and equipment business and the glass substrate business of its US subsidiary, Absorix.
Based on this, the company plans to strengthen its competitiveness in the high-value-added post-processing field.
