韓国政府、高市氏当選に「新内閣と緊密に疎通して協力する」
South Korean government announces it will ”closely communicate and cooperate with the new cabinet” in response to Takaichi's election
On the 4th, the South Korean government announced that Sanae Takaichi, former Minister of Economic Security, had been elected as the new president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, effectively the next prime minister of Japan, and that she would "maintain close communication with the new cabinet and work to promote positive relations between Japan and South Korea."
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (equivalent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan) said, "Around mid-October, a new prime minister will be appointed after the Japanese Diet's election."
"Japan and South Korea are neighboring countries with similar positions in the rapidly changing geopolitical environment and trade order, and we are looking forward to working together with them," the official said.
"As global cooperative partners, I hope that our two countries will continue to work together to further develop our future-oriented relationship," he said.
The newly elected LDP President, Sanae Takaichi, won the runoff election for the 29th LDP president, held at the LDP headquarters in Tokyo on the same day, with 185 votes cast.
Takaichi won 156 votes, beating out Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Shinjiro Koizumi, who received 156 votes, and was elected as the first female president of the Liberal Democratic Party. Takaichi will be elected as the first female president of the Liberal Democratic Party after the Prime Minister nomination election, which is likely to be held in the Diet around the 15th, following the election of current Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Regarding future plans for communication between the Japanese and South Korean leaders, a Foreign Ministry official said, "Now that shuttle diplomacy between Japan and South Korea has been fully restored, we will be taking the lead in the Japanese Diet as the Prime Minister."
"I hope to continue active exchanges with the new prime minister as soon as the new cabinet is formed after the election," he said.
I think it's something that can be done," he added.
