In Korea, there are not enough employment opportunities for talented people, such as extending the retirement age, and the research environment is unstable.
It has been revealed that Professor Song Ik-ho, professor emeritus of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), has recently been appointed professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC).
Also last year, former Vice President of the Academy of Sciences Lee Ki-myung and Seong Kyu (INFINITE), Chair Professor Lee Yong-hee of Sungkyunkwan University, traveled to China.
China offers exceptional conditions, including annual salaries at least two to four times higher than South Korea, retirement age extensions, and support for experiments.
The university is sending out a love call to Korea's best minds with the motto, "To be a great leader in the world of science and technology," and one professor who went to China was offered a yearly salary of 1 billion won (approximately 106 million yen).
China's aggressive policy of poaching Korean scientists has created a sense of crisis in the Korean scientific community.
