On the 22nd, President Lee posted a message on his Facebook page titled "Gather your strength for a beautiful country."
In the article, the 10 days from the same day to October 1st were designated as "Republic of Korea Redevelopment Week," and it was stated that "With the mid-autumn celebration (corresponding to the Obon holiday in Japan) and the APEC summit approaching, we will create a new Korea, a beautiful country."
"It's a nationwide clean-up campaign to welcome family and guests with clean soil," he said. "In particular, in areas with poor living conditions and around traditional markets, local residents and volunteers are joining forces to clean up the soil.
"Unfortunately, I cannot attend due to my commitments with the UN General Assembly, but I will do my best to enhance Korea's status and national prestige overseas," President Lee said.
"If many people participate, it will be a great force in creating a beautiful Korean land," he said. Finally, he said, "Through the 'Republic of Korea Redevelopment Week,' we hope to create a clean and comfortable country.
President Lee also proposed a nationwide cleanup at the Cabinet meeting on the 9th of this month.
While discussing the revitalization of the area, President Lee said, "I once flew a HYERI helicopter over the coast, and it was snowing on the coast of our country in the middle of summer," and added, "It was Styrofoam (not snow)."
"There was a huge amount of marine litter," he said. "It's a problem that is also related to tourism," he continued, "If you visit a country and see litter scattered on the highway, it creates a bad image of that country.
President Lee stressed the need to clean up expressways, saying, "I want to see it done nationwide." He said the cleaning work should be organized as a job-hunting project and run on a regular basis.
They also give instructions to do so.
