On the 14th (local time), Billboard announced in its chart preview article that the KPOP Girls! Demon Hunters OST album surpassed Sabrina Carpenter's 'Man's Best Friend' to reach the top of this week's Billboard 200 chart. The KPOP Girls! Demon Hunters OST album debuted at No.8 on the chart in its first week of release, subsequently spending a cumulative seven non-consecutive weeks at No.2 before finally claiming the top spot.
This achievement marks a major milestone for the OST album, reaching No.1 on both Billboard's main singles chart, the Hot 100, and the Billboard 200. The OST album track 'Golden' also maintained its No.1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for four consecutive weeks and continues to enjoy immense popularity.
Billboard noted the significance, stating, “This marks the seventh time an OST album has reached the top of the Billboard 200, the first time in three years since Encanto in 2022.”
The Billboard 200 ranks albums based on “album units,” which combine traditional album sales (physical albums), streaming equivalent album sales (SEA), and digital track equivalent album sales (TEA).
The KPOP Girls! Demon Hunters OST album recorded a total of 128,000 album units during the chart's tracking period. SEA specifically reached 103,000 units, a 1% increase from the previous week, with physical album sales surging 56%. TEA was tallied at 2,000 units.
Billboard analyzed the success factors as the singalong screening events held across the U.S. and the re-release of the deluxe album expanded to 23 tracks. The deluxe version adds singalong and a cappella versions to existing hit songs and is scheduled for release on LP on October 17th.
