Singer and actress IU surprised her fans with a special gift at the end of summer.
On the morning of the 10th, IU released her new digital single, 'Bye, Summer', on various music streaming platforms. This surprise release, without any prior announcement or promotion, was intended as a gift for her fans, whom she wanted to thank for sharing the summer season with her.
'Bye, Summer' was first performed at IU's '2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT ENCORE: THE WINNING' concert at the Seoul World Cup Stadium last September, generating significant buzz. During the performance, IU played the guitar and sang, explaining that "During this tour, summer felt especially long. But I want to say that this summer, spent with all of you, was the best summer ever." The rain that started during the beginning of the performance stopped just as the song ended, creating a magical moment. The live clip became a trending video on YouTube and received an overwhelming response. Given the constant requests from fans for a full release, this surprise release is even more meaningful.
IU co-wrote and composed the song with composer Seo Dong-hwan, who also worked on 'Love Wins All'. The song features a lyrical vocal style, a simple yet beautiful melody, and a refreshing band sound, capturing the cool breeze of late summer.
The accompanying lyric video is available on IU's official YouTube channel. The video tells a story like a short fairy tale, depicting a boy and a girl making memories together during the summer, before parting at the end of the season.
IU will hold her '2025 IU FAN MEET-UP [Bye, Summer]' at KSPO DOME on the 13th and 14th. She is currently filming her next drama, 'The Princess of 21st Century.'
