”Only Chinese people are attacked” - South Korea sentences man to prison for kicking Chinese tourist

A man in his 30s who assaulted Chinese and Taiwanese tourists who came to Korea out of anti-China sentiment has been sentenced to prison. According to the Korean legal community on the 3rd, the Seoul Western District Court issued a special prison sentence on the 21st of last month.
Suspect A, a man in his 30s, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for assault and battery. On April 1st of this year, Suspect A was accused of assaulting two Chinese tourists, Ms. B and Ms. C, both in their 20s.
Suspect A witnessed the victims having a lively conversation in Chinese on the bus, got off with them, followed them about 70 meters, and then grabbed them by the waist and threw them into the air.
Suspect A also made sexually insulting remarks in Chinese to the mother of the victims. On the 6th of the same month, Suspect A attacked a Taiwanese tourist in his 30s at a restaurant in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
He is also suspected of assaulting a man named D and a woman named E in her 20s. Suspect A, who was eating at a restaurant at the time, saw the victims conversing in Chinese and began shouting Chinese about President Xi Jinping.
He made false accusations against the victims, commenting on their seating and making insulting remarks about Chinese people. When the victims left the restaurant, he followed them with a bottle of alcohol that was on the table and swung it down on their heads.
The suspect also reportedly assaulted a restaurant employee who tried to stop him. The court said, "Given his usual hostility towards Chinese people, this appears to be a hate crime aimed at Chinese people."
The court ruled that "the fact that severe punishment is necessary and that the victims were assaulted by the defendant without understanding why and are pleading for severe punishment from the defendant are unfavorable circumstances for the defendant."
He then explained the reason for the sentence, saying, "However, we took into consideration the fact that he deeply regrets his crime and that he turned himself in after the incident was reported in some media outlets."
