According to a regular survey conducted by the Korean polling organization Gallup Korea from the 26th to the 28th of this month, targeting 1,000 voters aged 18 and over in the fourth week of August,
President Lee's approval rating was 59%, with 30% disapproving and 11% unsure. President Lee's approval rating rose 3 percentage points from 56% in the previous survey (the third week of August).
Since President Lee took office in June this year, his approval rating had remained in the mid-60% range for four consecutive weeks until the third week of July. However, in a survey conducted in the second week of August, it fell below 60%, hitting 59%.
By the third week of August, this had dropped to 56%. When asked why they supported President Lee, the most common answer was "diplomacy" at 21%, followed by "economy and people's lives" at 12% and "general good" at 11%.
In terms of reasons for disapproval, "diplomacy" was the most common at 12%, followed by "excessive national living support subsidies" and "labor policy" at 9% each, and then "dictatorship and arbitrary decision-making" and "economy and national life" at 9%.
"Generally unfavorable" and "special pardon (amnesty)" were both recorded at 7%. Meanwhile, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea's approval rating was 44%, while the main opposition People Power Party's approval rating was 23%.
The People's Power Party's support fell by 2 percentage points, the same as in the previous survey, followed by the New Reform Party (3%), the Fatherland Reform Party (2%), and the Progressive Party (1%).
