Former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo's warrant review begins... Special prosecutor submits 360-page opinion (South Korea)
The Special Prosecutor for Civil Unrest announced on the 27th that it had submitted a 362-page opinion to the substantive review of the warrant for former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, which began at 1:30 pm.
Assistant prosecutor Park Ji-Yeon said in a briefing on the same day, "On the 25th, we submitted a 360-page opinion to the court and a 160-page PowerPoint presentation.
"We have also submitted documents (PPT)," he said. He also plans to present surveillance camera footage to substantiate charges of perjury and other offenses. Eight prosecutors, including Assistant Special Prosecutor Kim Hyeon-Su, will be attending the warrant review.
Assistant Special Prosecutor Park said, "Basically, we will actively emphasize the proof of the criminal charges, and if the charges are proved, as we already know, the seriousness of the crime will be sufficiently proved."
On the 24th, the special counsel charged former Prime Minister Han with aiding and abetting the masterminds of a rebellion, perjury, creating false official documents, damaging official documents, violating the law on the management of presidential records, and filing false official documents.
The former prime minister has requested an arrest warrant on suspicion of using a letter of intent and other charges. This will be the first time in constitutional history that a former prime minister will be subject to an arrest warrant review. Whether or not former prime minister Han can be detained will depend on the fact that he is under suspicion of aiding and abetting a civil unrest.
This is expected to have an impact on other State Council members and the investigation into allegations of obstructing the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law.
