LG Innotek and Intel to build AI smart factory in South Korea
LG Innotek, a parts manufacturer, is collaborating with US semiconductor giant Intel to build a cost-effective AI (artificial intelligence) smart factory.
With this in mind, discussions are underway to build an inspection system that uses AI. LG Innotek aims to build a system that automates inspections by introducing AI into all manufacturing processes.
The system's greatest feature is that it can be operated without a semiconductor of the same class. The data obtained from the production line is processed by a GPU (image processing unit) built into the CPU.
The system secures the processing data and uses it to improve the process. The system uses an external GPU to handle only the analysis of large amounts of data or high-resolution, complex images that are difficult to process on a GPU.
LG Innotek said, "We can minimize costs by performing the fine-tuning work that would normally be done by AI only on the CPU."
LG Innotek introduced Intel's AI vision inspection solution to its camera module production line in 2024. In 2025, it will introduce FC-BGA (
The collaboration will be expanded to include the Gumi plant in Korea, which produces flip-chip ball grid arrays (Flip Chip Ball Grid Arrays), and overseas plants. The two companies will work together to develop products equipped with Intel's AI accelerator "Gaudi."
The system also plans to incorporate AI services.
