The main opposition party's candidate says ”Thank you, Cho Kuk” as the president's approval rating ”falls” (South Korea)
Ahn Cheol-soo, the leader candidate of the People Power Party, the largest opposition party in South Korea, commented on the simultaneous drop in approval ratings for the Lee Jae-myung administration and the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Cho Kuk
"The August 15 special pardon for traitors Cho Kuk (former chairman of the Fatherland Reform Party) and former lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang played a major role," he said, adding, "I'm grateful that it lowered President Lee's approval rating."
He made a roundabout criticism of former South Korean Justice Minister Cho, also known as "Onion Man." On the afternoon of the 18th, Ahn posted on Facebook, "Thank you, Cho Kuk! Please work even more energetically.
Candidate Ahn wrote, "Former Chairman Cho has been working hard, and President Lee's approval rating (survey by the polling agency Realmeter) has dropped by 12.2 percentage points in two weeks.
"Thank you, Cho Kuk," he said, sarcastically adding, "I hope you will work even harder." He continued, "Looking at President Lee's daily approval rating according to the real meter, on August 14th it was 48.
"President Lee's approval rating has fallen to 0.3%, and is on the verge of falling below the 50% mark," he said. "This drop in President Lee's approval rating is largely due to the August 15 special pardon for traitors Cho and former lawmaker Yoon."
Meanwhile, according to a Realmeter poll released on the same day, President Lee's approval rating was 51.1%, down 5.4 percentage points from the previous week's survey and 63.3% from two weeks ago.
In a survey of party approval ratings, the ruling party recorded 39.9%, down 8.5 percentage points from the previous week's survey.
