Actor Cho Jin-woo, who recited the pledge to the national flag at the 80th Liberation Day ceremony, said, "I speak out about social issues because someone has to do it.

"I was faced with a difficult situation, so I looked for a role that I could play within the scope of the role I can play as an actor," he said.
He also explained, "When you speak up, if it is right and dignified, then of course you should do so. I think that is the beautiful way we should live our lives."
He added, "If I judge it to be wrong, I believe there is a voice I can speak out against it. I think that is a very peaceful way of life."
He also touched on the issue of the declaration of martial law on December 3rd of last year, criticizing it, saying, "I felt it was a disrespect to my family and the entire nation. How can someone who is not in a position to do that speak out?"
He added, "Even though we accepted his wishes and entrusted him with his duties, we recognized that such behavior was out of step with the times and was wrong."
That same morning, he also attended the 80th Liberation Day Ceremony held at the Sejong Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where he recited the pledge to the national flag.
The theme of the event was "80 years since liberation, building a future with national sovereignty," and it emphasized the importance of inheriting the spirit of the independence movement and the value of national sovereignty. The event was attended by approximately 25 people, including relatives of independence activists, government officials, diplomatic corps in Korea, and citizens.
