The Goyang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, has issued a notice regarding the regulation of police uniforms and police equipment.
On June 9th, it was revealed that a man in his 50s, Mr. A, was sent to the police without arrest on the 25th of last month on suspicion of violating the law. Mr. A was arrested at the Korea Air University Station in Goyang City at around 10:56 pm on June 27th.
He is suspected of walking around the station wearing an autumn jacket and a police officer's cap, and carrying a plastic imitation handgun and a replica Taser gun attached to his waist.
Police responded to a citizen's report that Mr. A was wearing a police uniform but lacked his rank insignia and name tag, and they arrested him.
Mr. A told the police, "I am a member of a cosplay club and purchased police uniforms and similar equipment through an overseas mail order service."
Under the current law regulating police uniforms and police equipment, anyone who is not a police officer may wear a police uniform or police equipment.
It is also prohibited to wear similar police uniforms, making it difficult to distinguish them from police officers.
