The two companies will jointly develop five next-generation vehicles, including a mid-size pickup truck (UTE), a compact passenger car, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), and an electric vehicle (EV) van for the North American market.
If these are mass-produced, it is expected that more than 800,000 units will be produced and sold annually. To start with, GM will develop a platform for mid-size utes, and Hyundai will develop a platform for small cars and electric vans.
The two companies are currently working on the design and engineering of a new vehicle for the Latin American market, with a target launch date of 2028, and will also begin production of an electric van for the US market from 2028.
To this end, the two companies will jointly procure materials and build a logistics system in North and South America. In addition, they will work to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in order to achieve sustainable manufacturing methods.
Based on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in September 2024, the two companies will also explore the possibility of cooperation in the use of steel plates that reduce fuel consumption.
The two companies will also consider ways to advance collaboration on powertrain systems.
