Opposition lawmakers criticize President Lee's trade diplomacy... ”He's nowhere to be seen in tariff negotiations” = South Korea
On the 30th, Jang Dong-hyuk, a lawmaker from the South Korean opposition People Power Party, expressed his disappointment that President Lee Jae-myung was nowhere to be seen at the crucial stage of the tariff negotiations between the United States and South Korea.
Zhang, who is considering running for the party's leadership election, wrote on his Facebook page that the deadline for the moratorium on the imposition of the 25% reciprocal tariffs was "just two days away," criticizing the current situation.
Furthermore, Zhang pointed out that "after forcing through the Commercial Code amendment and the Yellow Envelope Law, they have driven companies to the brink of collapse, and now they are just whipping them to support tariff negotiations."
Jang criticized President Lee for not being present at the negotiations. "They may be trying to gauge the reaction of China and North Korea, or they may have already incurred the displeasure of the United States and are reluctant to intervene directly," he said.
"I cannot understand at all why they have a premonition that this will hinder negotiations," he said. "The tragic price of the Lee administration's anti-American, pro-China, and pro-North Korea diplomacy is becoming a reality.
" He also emphasized, "Where did the confidence and arrogance that led him to summon Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok to the National Assembly before the presidential election and scold him, saying, 'Let the next administration take over the issue of tariff negotiations?'
The day before, Jang quoted the remarks of Kim Min-un, the elder brother of Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and the permanent representative of the Candlelight Movement, and said that outside the Lee administration,
"The 'Yankee Go Home' policy is an anti-American, pro-Chinese, pro-North Korean policy disguised as independence," Jang said. "In the end, this policy is the biggest risk not only to the Lee administration but to South Korea as a whole."
"This is happening," he warned.
