Samsung Heavy Industries, Qatari shipowners and shipyards conduct heatstroke prevention activities
Samsung Heavy Industries (010140) is taking care of the health of its workers and holding the "It's Cool. Thank You!" event where workers can enjoy watermelon punch and Eon drinks to prevent heatstroke.
On the day, food trucks were set up around Geoje Shipyard, providing watermelon punch and cold Eon drinks for 12,000 people.
The equipment was provided to employees. Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard Director (CSO) Lee Wan-keun, along with representatives from JP Morgan, Qatargas, and the Workers' Council, toured the site together and carried out safety prevention activities.
Samsung Heavy Industries has set aside a 20-minute break every two hours when the perceived temperature is 33 degrees or higher. If the temperature rises to 28.5 degrees or higher and 32.5 degrees or higher, the break is set at 30 minutes, respectively.
Lunchtimes are being extended by one hour each day to ensure that workers have enough time to rest. Lee Wan-geun, general manager of the shipyard, said, "Employee health and safety are our top priority, and we are doing our best to create a safe workplace from the heat.
We will do our best to achieve this goal."
