A mother in her 20s gave birth to a newborn baby and abandoned him in a toilet, causing his death (South Korea)

The prosecution has requested a seven-year prison sentence for a mother in her 20s who abandoned her newborn baby in a toilet bowl immediately after giving birth.
This was the sentence quoted by the court for Defendant A (26), who was arrested and indicted on suspicion of violating the Special Act on Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (resulting in death by child abuse).
He will be required to complete a child abuse treatment program and will be banned from working in child-related institutions for 10 years.
Defendant A was on trial in March this year on charges of abandoning a newborn baby in the toilet bowl at her home in Asan, Chungnam, causing its death.
In his final statement, Defendant A said, "I am truly sorry to my child and have made a huge mistake," and added, "I will never forget this incident, I will keep it deeply in my heart, and I will never do something like this again."
"I want to live an honest life and not do such things," he said. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 8th.
