Ahead of the Democratic Party's national convention on August 2, the first round of primary elections was held for right-wing party members in Chungcheong-do, and candidate Jeong Cheong-rae won by a landslide.
In a vote on the 19th by Chungcheong Province Right Party members, candidate Jeong received 62.77% of the votes, while candidate Park Chan-dae received 37.23%.
The difference in the vote share between the two candidates (25.54%) was quite large compared to previous polls. Of course, the rounds have already begun, and the difference in the vote share between the delegates (15%) and the general public (30%) has not been decided yet.
However, since the Right Party members accounted for the largest proportion of the total votes at 55%, Park must now create a "golden cross" (a reversal of support rates) in the party's hearts.
In a poll conducted by Gallup Korea on the previous day targeting Democratic Party supporters, Chung recorded 47% support and Park recorded 34% support.

Candidate Chung, who has called himself the "big gun of the party," said in his campaign speech on the same day that he will "push forward like a storm and do it like lightning" on the three major reform issues of the prosecution, media, and judiciary.
"We will put our all into the fight and pass legislation within three months," he said. He also called for an "uncompromising breakthrough," saying, "The civil war is a war that has not yet ended," and "We will not be swayed by the power of the people to hold us back."
Meanwhile, Park has emphasized stable leadership. While he shares Chung's views on the necessity and direction of reform, he made it clear that he would "support national politics as the representative of the ruling party."
He took a different approach from Chung, saying he would seek cooperation with opposition parties such as the People Power Party, but he failed to win over the hearts of the Chungcheong-do party.
Candidates Chung and Park were known for their 'Myung-shin' (the name of President Lee Jae-myung) campaign.
However, President Lee was known to have said, "The winner is my ally," regarding the party power struggle, and Myeongsim was a major change in the vote that day.
