Opposition lawmaker: ”The party's reform committee should stop harming themselves”... ”This is a betrayal of the 40% of the people who supported the party” = South Korea

On the 17th, Na Kyung-won, a lawmaker from the South Korean opposition party People Power Party, said, "The apology demanded by the (party's) Innovation Committee is not an apology," and "I oppose impeachment and will support our party in the presidential election."
"It is a betrayal of the 40% of the people who have supported us and is nothing more than the self-denial of a politician who has no convictions," he said.
"Like the Democratic Party's ministerial candidates, are they saying that our party's main enemy is not the Democratic Party, but our fellow lawmakers and our own party's supporters?"
"After the sudden emergency law was imposed, when the party was in a state of confusion and sat idly by, it was the people who first grabbed the core," Na said. "About 80 percent of our party's supporters and 40 percent of the people are in favor of the party.
"Nearly 100% of the people said that 'impeachment is not the answer.'" He continued, "As I maintain my belief in 'procedural democracy,' I cannot agree to impeachment, which lacks democratic legitimacy in decision-making.
"Because they could not support the Democratic Party, we stood up and fought alongside them," he said. "With that power as the foundation, we were able to secure more than 40% of the votes in the presidential election, and we prevented the worst-case scenario of the 'extinction of conservatives.'
However, Rep. Na said, "The worst situation happened after the presidential election ended. The Democratic Party framed him as 'defending martial law' for 'opposing impeachment.'
"They spoke of legal responsibility, urged an apology and told them to 'decide whether to resign or not,'" he said. This is a criticism of Yoon Hee-sook, the Reform Committee Chair, for asking party leaders to decide whether to resign or not.
Rep. Na said, "Not all of the people who opposed impeachment supported martial law. They decided that the Democratic Party's anti-constitutional ideas were a serious threat to democracy."
