Governors of Kanagawa and Gyeonggi provinces meet in person to mark 35th anniversary of friendly relations, South Korea

On the 16th, South Korean Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province met with Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa in Gyeonggi Province and pledged to cooperate in areas of common interest on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the friendly ties between the two regions.
The two leaders agreed to a joint declaration on deepening exchanges and cooperation that will strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was a response to an invitation extended to Governor Kuroiwa when Governor Kim visited Japan two years ago, and marked the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Kanagawa-Gyeonggi Province friendship agreement.
Governor Kim said, "Kanagawa Prefecture, the innovative center of the Japanese economy, and Gyeonggi Province, the economic heart of Korea, will lead the way in economic cooperation, cutting-edge exchanges, and cultural content."
"I believe that continuing to promote this friendship will be a foundation for greater coexistence and progress not only between the two regions but also between Korea and Japan," he said. "Today, Governor Kuroiwa's visit and the signing of the joint declaration are a great opportunity to celebrate the 35th anniversary of friendship between the Gyeonggi
"I hope that this will add momentum to close cooperation and coexistence between the province and Kanagawa Prefecture, as well as between South Korea and Japan, which are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations."
Governor Kuroiwa responded, "This year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, and is a significant year.
"This is also a historic year in which Kanagawa Prefecture and Gyeonggi Province are celebrating their 35th anniversary, so I hope that this visit will serve as an opportunity to further deepen friendly exchanges between the two regions," he said. "I look forward to Governor Kim's proposal."
Governor Kim responded by saying, "We will consider it." Governor Kuroiwa said, "We will consider the request of the Kanagawa Trade Group to participate in the G Fair (Korea Excellent Products Exhibition) in October, and the request of the Kanagawa Expert Group to participate in the Gyeonggi International Clean Air Forum in September."
"Inviting local governments and relevant public officials," "Regularizing investment cooperation seminars between Gyeonggi Province and Kanagawa Prefecture," and "Joint responses to policies for a super-aging society, including healthcare and biotechnology" were proposed.
