Diverse travel destinations for active seniors expand to Vietnam, Mongolia, etc. - South Korea

Jeju Air, a Korean low-cost carrier, analyzed its customer data by age and found that customers in their 60s and 70s, known as "active seniors," travel more diversely overseas than other age groups.
There was a tendency to select travel destinations. In August 2024, travel destinations for people in their 20s and 30s were concentrated in specific countries, including Japan (78%), Greater China (8%), the Philippines (7%), and Thailand (7%).
On the other hand, those in their 60s and 70s were found to have chosen a relatively diverse range of regions, including Japan (45%), Vietnam (22%), China (16%), Mongolia (9%) and Laos (8%).
In particular, in the case of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the proportion of people in their 60s and 70s in July and August was about 7,700, more than double the number in the same period last year, which was about 3,300.
The number of active seniors has increased by more than 50%, from about 5,500 to about 8,500. An official from the company said, "Active seniors are becoming more interested in new cities in addition to traditional popular travel destinations, and their choices are becoming more diverse.
"The demand for family trips where parents and children travel together is also increasing," he said. In order to meet the demand during the summer peak season, Jeju Air will operate 14 flights a week between Busan and Fukuoka and 14 flights a week between Incheon and Fukuoka in July and August.
The airline will increase flights to Ulaanbaatar to twice a week and operate 50 additional flights per week on the other nine routes.
