SKT: Over 160,000 users leave in 10 days due to SIM card information leak - Korea
After the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) information leak incident, South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom (SKT) implemented a penalty waiver for porting numbers, resulting in over 160,000 users being ineligible for the service within 10 days.
According to a South Korean telecommunications industry source on the 14th, SKT's subscriber base decreased by a total of 79,171 from the 5th to the 16th of this month.
During this period, 83,268 employees moved from SKT to KT, and 83,173 employees moved to LG Uplus. In particular, on the 14th, which was the last day of the penalty exemption, 100,000 employees moved from SKT to other companies.
The total number of subscribers was 42,027, broken down as follows: 21,593 to KT and 20,434 to LG Uplus.
Since the SIM information leak incident in April this year, the total number of customers who have left SKT is 835,214.
As a result, SKT's total subscriber base recorded a net decrease of 601,376.
